Protect Forests. Fund The Future

For six years Ben & Jerry's supporters have backed HalfCut to help heal and restore the Daintree, but it’s not enough. Add your name and call on the Australian Government to protect forests and fund the future.

Meet Nature Halfway

Since 2020, Ben & Jerry's supporters have backed HalfCut to help heal and restore the world’s oldest rainforest, the Daintree. Together we’ve raised over $550,000 - but it’s not enough.

Australia has committed to protecting more places that keep ecosystems thriving.  Yet government investment still falls far short of what's needed.

If we're serious about protecting forests, wildlife and future generations, the Government must step up.

The Issue

Half the world's forests have already disappeared.

That's why HalfCut exists. And it’s why thousands of Australians keep taking action.

But protecting forests can't rest on the shoulders of communities and campaigners alone. The government has committed to protecting 30% of Australia’s land by 2030.

Right now, funding isn't keeping pace with that promise.

The Ask

Tell the Government: match your promises with funding.

Australia's forests, wildlife and ecosystems need more than targets. They need investment.

We're calling on the Australian Government to double its commitment to protecting the places that sustain life and back First Nations people already doing the work to care for Country.

Because every delay puts more pressure on the ecosystems we all depend on.

Australia's forests cover 17% of the country.

Just 0.04% of the federal budget goes towards protecting them.

That's not enough to meet Australia's commitment to protect 30% of land by 2030. Scientists say investment needs to increase significantly if we want to halt species loss and protect critical ecosystems

Greater investment in nature will help:

  • protect threatened species and their habitat
  • restore damaged land and ecosystems
  • expand Australia's protected areas
  • back First Nations-led conservation

First Nations communities are leading the way

Across Australia, First Nations people are protecting and restoring Country using generations of knowledge, experience and cultural practice.

The work HalfCut supports in the Daintree shows what's possible when Traditional Owners are empowered to care for Country.

We need more First Nations people back on Country, using their culture, experience and knowledge to heal the landscapes that have been degraded through agriculture, extraction and a changing climate.  Investing in First Nations leadership on Country creates better outcomes across the board, from housing to healthcare, creating stronger, more resilient and empowered communities.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Australian Government has committed to protecting 30% of Australia’s land by 2030. It’s an important promise, but right now funding isn’t keeping pace with it.

  • Australia’s forests cover 17% of the country, yet just 0.04% of the federal budget goes towards protecting them. That’s a tiny fraction of what’s needed to meet the promise to protect 30% of our land by 2030.

  • We’re calling on the Government to double its investment in the places that sustain life. That means protecting threatened species and their habitat, restoring damaged land and ecosystems, expanding Australia’s protected areas, and backing First Nations-led conservation.

  • For six years, Ben & Jerry’s supporters have backed HalfCut to help heal and restore the Daintree, working alongside Traditional Owners. That partnership shows what’s possible when First Nations people are properly resourced to care for Country. This campaign calls on Government to back that kind of work right across Australia, not just in the Daintree.

  • No. This is about accountability, not politics. The Australian Government has already promised to protect 30% of our land by 2030. We’re simply asking for the funding to back up that promise, whoever is in office. Every name added makes that promise harder to ignore.

  • Working with HalfCut, we’ll use every signature to strengthen the case we take to government for greater investment in nature. Elected officials respond to numbers, and the more Australians who add their name, the harder this is to dismiss. Your signature becomes part of the evidence that people want to see forests, wildlife and First Nations-led conservation properly funded, not just promised.
