We know by now that climate action is beyond urgent.
Every day, we see its effects all over the world in our news feeds. Here in Australia, the bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef, extreme bushfires, record temperatures and extreme floods are evidence we are living through it. Australia is one of the highest per capita emitters of carbon dioxide in the world and unfortunately our politicians have not stepped up to address this.
We can do what we can in our daily lives – whether it’s taking shorter showers, riding bicycles or reducing our personal carbon footprint. But this is the biggest crisis we’ll ever face as a generation and we need to propel big changes and elect in people who have the power to do so.
Together, we can send a message to all Australian politicians that we don’t need more fossil fuels and action must be taken now.
Why is enrolling and voting so important?
First things first, voters need to be enrolled to vote, which is why it’s important to make sure you enrol. Gen Z’s and Millennials have a lot riding on the outcome of this election. With the climate crisis getting worse, this is the only decade we have left to stop the climate crisis from reaching a scary tipping point.
But we can stop and reverse the effects of climate change by taking serious and urgent climate action to stop and reverse climate change.
The truth is, no matter how much recycling we do at home or light bulbs we switch off - the real people who are able to save our planet from the climate crisis are the people we elect into our Government. And right now, our Government has been voted the worst in the UN on climate action.
Take action now
The last election was won in some places by just a handful of votes. And every single vote counts.
As they say, you have to be in it to win it and we can win it by working together and voting the right people in. Enrol and let your voice be heard in the choices you make as a voter.
