Equality for All is Our Pride and Joy

June is Pride Month, and here at Ben & Jerry’s we’ve been supporting Marriage Equality for over 35 years. Our commitment to the LGBTQ community is grounded in our company’s core values, which include a deep respect for people inside and outside our company, and an unshakable belief that all people deserve full and equal civil rights.

Back in 1989 we were the first major employer in Vermont to offer health insurance to domestic partners of employees, including same sex couples, and we haven’t spent one minute regretting it. Here are a few other ways Ben & Jerry’s has supported Marriage Equality over the years:

1996: Our Foundation awards grants to PFLAG (Parents, Friends and Family of Lesbians and Gays) organizations

1999: We supported Vermont’s Civil Union Bill

2001: Ben & Jerry’s supported the Employment Non-Discrimination Act

2009: We celebrated gay marriage in Vermont the best way we know how—by renaming Chubby Hubby to Hubby Hubby

2010: We provided the venue for a same sex wedding at our DC Scoop Shop. How sweet it was!

2012: Ben & Jerry’s partnered with Stonewall to support Marriage Equality in UK with an honorary flavor: Apple-y Ever After

2013: We supported Marriage Equality in Australia with I Dough, I Dough, and in Ireland with EngageMint Party

2013: We partnered with the band FUN. and The Ally Coalition to raise awareness around LGBTQ equality

2014: Ben & Jerry’s participated for the first time in the Tokyo Rainbow Pride parade.

Love comes in all flavors, and LGBTQ Pride Month is the perfect time to say it loud and say it proud, “Love who you love!” Join us, and our partner Freedom To Marry, in standing up for equality by adding your voice to the movement.
