In 2009, “Untouched” by the Veronicas wasn’t the only thing taking over the country. That year also marked the grand opening of the very first Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop in the southern hemisphere — right here in Australia!

2009 - First Scoop Shop Opens in Australia!

To celebrate the opening of our very first Scoop Shop in Australia, we threw an epic all-day scoop-a-thon at the Manly beachfront. Co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield personally handed out free scoops during a day filled with fun, sun, and — of course — endless ice cream.

2016 - Say Kia Ora to New Zealand!
In 2016 we said “Kia ora” to our Kiwi friends and opened our first New Zealand store in Auckland, complete with a celebration including live music, free ice cream, and a whole lot of love.
2017 - Joined the Fight for Marriage Equality
In 2017, fans visited their local Scoop Shops hoping to enjoy a couple scoops of their favourite flavours, but — oh no! — were told that we had banned ordering two scoops of the same ice cream flavor! Here at Ben & Jerry’s, our values are as bold as our ice cream flavours, and in 2017 we proudly joined the fight for marriage equality with a pretty sweet stunt. The ban was part of a campaign to push for swift parliamentary action on marriage equality, which successfully passed later that year. Two scoops of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough to celebrate?
2021 - Ben & Jerry’s Goes HalfCut

2021 marked the beginning of our relationship with HalfCut, an organisation dedicated to the protection of the oldest rainforest in the world, the Daintree Rainforest. In three years of working with HalfCut founder Jimmy, our Scoop Shops across Australia and New Zealand have helped fundraise over $250k to help return the lands to traditional owners. Sweet as!
2023 - A Match Made in Chocolate-y Heaven
In 2023, we partnered with Tony’s Chocolonely and joined their mission to end modern slavery and child labour in the cocoa industry. We celebrated our union by launching the Chocolate-y Love-A-Fair pint and threw a huge party at Circular Quay to celebrate the match made in dessert heaven!
2024 – We Helped SAVE 7.7 Million Hectares in the Southern Ocean!

Just a month before celebrating our 15th birthday, we received some fantastic news from our partners and friends at Surfrider Australia: The massive oil and gas proposal threatening 7.7 million hectares of Australia’s Southern Ocean had finally been rejected!
The news comes after a multi-year campaign that involved co-producing a 45-minute documentary on the dangers of seismic blasting, touring with the film across the Eastern seaboard, and handing out truckloads of free ice cream to build community momentum.
Not only is this a HUGE way to celebrate our birthday, but also a massive testament to the things that peace, love & ice cream can achieve when they come together!
As we look back on 15 incredible years of scoops and smiles, we can’t help but feel warm and fuzzy inside.
From our humble beginnings in Manly to our expansion across 45 stores in ANZ, each milestone has been sweeter with your support.
